My name is Rory van Vliet, and I am a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Professor Rob Biernacki. My goal with this RUclips channel is to help you get better faster by teaching you the underlying concepts behind each technique. Instead of just "technique hunting" I want you to be able to think for yourself and adapt your problem solving skills to have more thought behind your actions. This will give your technique more purpose, better timing, and a better understanding that will allow you to teach the information to other people. This channel has material for everyone from complete beginners to more advanced practitioners.

thank you for making this video.
Thanks!
Thank you these video are so helpful
This series is great. Been looking for videos that click with me and these do just that. Thanks Guys
This is so god damn helpful. Just started and bruised my ribs at the second session. Sitting at home and can't do anything besides waiting and watching videos to get a basic understanding of BJJ and this playlist helps so much, thanks a lot
It's criminal how underrated this channel is 😿
Perfekt
thank you! These are great videos, excellently broken down for dum-dums like me :)
Love your gi Rory! Great content as always 👏🏽
You guys are complete legends, i can't stop watching this channel as a bjj white belt
Ahh it's like horse riding concepts
Interesting, maybe you can have Mikey Musumeci teach you how to do them..😅😅
Thank you for this playlist, I’m finding it very helpful. BJJ is very confusing for newcomers…!
No homo
You guys are the best! Love this series
Hey Rory do you and Rob still advocate the second version of the Frame and Hip escape that’s shown in the BJJConcepts video where there is a slight inversion of the hips and you block their lower knee?
Yes as long as you have proper elbow positioning.
Thanks for the reply I appreciate it!
Absolutely incredible stuff for free, thank you! Wish I could get these more views
Can i scape using hip scape? have said it before :(
Can you escape? Yes that is what I explained.
Exactly..what am i missing in my arts game? Wonder😮
All my Masters have this inate ability 🙏
White belt mystery power 🥋
Is this chewys brother
Love your breakdowns!! Thanks.
boy am I grateful that you would share such knowledge for free. Due to health problems I haven’t been able to consistently train and honestly I almost thought about quiting but finding your videos changed that. Thank you so much.
Your wrong calf slicers do not only effect pain. At a tournament I was going against someone who had +35 pounds on me and I was able to break his fibula because he would not tap
Amazing series thanks
Thank you good content all i needed gratitude❤
I skipped to submissions 😈
So essentially, you're passing again.
Yea if you skip backtracking and just squeeze for dear life you'll lose everything.
Interesting take but I must disagree and I wonder if your opinion has changed since this video? Calf slicers can be absolutely devastating to the calf, hamstring, and knee. Not only that but what I mostly disagree with is saying that this doesn't fit well with in the system of leglocks. From both SLX and the saddle you have both a calf slicer and a hamstring slicer (beartrap /hamsandwich) if your opponent frees their knee-line from either position they are right there for the taking. At the very least they can be a direct pathway to a back take from a failed leglock. A techniques usefulness is not just about its primary function but its totality of usefulness. Just my humble opinion.
Exactly 💯 correct
Brilliant series, I've been trying to understand back control and this is super useful. It's back control week in fundamental classes at my academy so hoping to apply some of these concepts.
What can I say guys, been going almost through the whole series during this months and it has really helped me grasping the bascis, now my bjj is gradually starting to make sense, and this is only the beginning, thank you for the great work
I got caught in a calf slicer last night, and holy shit my calf hurts today
That was really helpful. I'm going to practiser that technique. It's also helpful to see it done in context of having an opponent cross your guard or in a side control position.
I get to mount and then go to high mount then go for s guard, and then the guy escapes.
Good one! Right to the move
This one had a LONG intro…
It's got timestamps for you to jump ahead, and it started either showing the technique that will be covered in passing. This is also a conceptually heavy video, so we are explaining passing to someone like its their first time.
i have been injured multiple times by this move ... guys if u dont know an escape just tap . you WILL get a rib injury.... this guy is full of crap... dont listen to this RVV BJJ.
You should have watched this video earlier to learn how to defend it.
Looks criminal to me the low views this course has. I'm loving the concept approach, it's exactly what I was looking for. Keep the amazing work.
Fantastic video and series! I do have a question about this side control escape. The big difference I am seeing is the emphasis on clearing and alleviating the crossface first. I agree with you guys and intend to try this in practice. I was just wondering why the vast majority of basic control escapes ignore the cross face and have you frame your elbow or upper forearm in the opponent's hip joint? It seems that usually once you get the knee in, the "normal" escapes have you break the crossface when you realign with the opponent and begin to close guard. I am liking the look of your method and I think it makes more sense fundamentally, I was just wondering a) what would the reason be behind the more traditional frame? and b) why you use a different approach? Thank you again for helping out with fundamentals!
The reality is that a lot of people suck at cross facing their opponents. Bad habits, too nice to training partners, etc. So people can escape too easily. Higher level guys emphasize more importance in not allowing your opponent to control your head and prioritize clearing that control first. Framing the hip can help relieve some pressure, and with flexibility, you can still escape in some ways (lower percentage).
@@RVVBJJ Thank you for the reply! I appreciate that this series has a focus on teaching concepts and skills that will help through a lifetime of training. I do think a decent number of traditional fundamental techniques seem to be intended to be used against less skilled opponents. One my breakthroughs was realizing how important it is to do stuff preemptively. I think your methods reward be proactive and are excellent to focus on for me and other beginners! I was going to ask for pointers on what to do if you do get caught with the crossface but I actually used the search bar first and saw the excellent video Mr. Biernacki did with Stephan Kesting. I mention both to say thanks again for such great free resources and to help anyone else who sees this comment
Awesome!
Very good lesson thank you! Subscribed
Be careful. A talented opponent can break your fingers if you tie them too strong on the gi.
That.......never happens unless people and completely useless at responding to movement.
Great instruction I subscribed immediately
I have been training bjj for 2 months and I sucked as much as possible, at 6-minutes round I got submitted 5 times. I have watched every video in this course up to this and I intend to finish it. I still suck, not gonna lie, but after watching these 20 videos and understanding some fundamentals I suck less. I noticed I improved significantly in guard passing and now it's also harder for my opponents to get a better position against me. I even managed to submit a few guys already in a full sprarring. Thank you Rory and Robb
What a wonderful opportunity it is to roll with Marcelo. I couldn't imagine something cooler.
5:13 man this is great, I spent a month trying to add the missing step to side control, I always had the opponent pushing my knee back inside, this evening I focused on keeping my knee as much as possible close to my chest and not only I was able to better recover guard, but also provided me extra protection from mount since I already had a knee-elbow escape set up. Thanks for the content!
This is insanely helpful, thank you guys.
Fantastic 💪🥋
Sounds to me the advantage point gives incentive to be more agressive
